Here is a communique that Mike Freeman sent to Beth Mynett a few
months ago regarding the progress of Talking X-Windows on Sun workstations.
I thought to put it in the messaging archive as a piece of historical
information, but didn't want anyone to miss the opportunity to save it in a
special place themselves. So, here it is.

Hello, Beth.
Thank you for replying to my message. I am encouraged to find
you optimistic and that you believe the project to be on-
schedule.
As far as I am concerned, the faster you can get a Motif
interface on-line (and reading software can be designed for it
so I don't have to write it myself {grin}), the better. Hope
you can figure out hooks to let your efforts work with
Vax/VMS Motif as that's what I have here. At present, I do not
have access to any of its features; I talk to DCL and VMS thru
my VaxStation's printer port using the talking terminal I use
for other applications. This may not be as tough a nut to crack
as DEC has established an Office of Visually Impaired Information
Services to distribute machine-readable docs etc. so they seem to be
becoming more aware of the blind/vi programmer/user.
I am forwarding your message to some of my colleagues.
Again, thank you and feel free to call upon Curtis Chong,
President of the NFB in Computer Science, whom you know, for help if
needed.
