I am interested in comments here. More for me than for Greg. Anyone interested
in acting as a beta tester? I have some in mind(grin).

Dear Curtis:

You have a "future computer/information system" group at NFB, don't you?
We are working on a number of databases with access built into them. Also,
we have the new seamless access work that we're doing. In conjunction with
that, do you think that some of the members of your group would be
interested in acting as beta testers and test sites? They would get early
peeks at stuff, and free copies, in exchange for beating up the programs,
sending us criticism, and helping to work the bugs out.

If you think they might be interested, let me know. We can actually use
people with a wide variety of equipment, from people who have nothing
beyond a 640K PC with a hard drive all the way up to people with 486
machines with CD ROMs. We design different pieces of software for this
full range, and it is actually useful to have some testers who have to live
on the small, slow machines testing the software. If you put out a request
to your members to ask if they're interested, it would help us out if you
could collect the following kinds of information from those who are
interested, to help determine which things would be appropriate to have
included in the test. (In fact, I would think you might find it
interesting just to survey everyone and see what kinds of profiles you find
for the equipment your members have -- but that's up to your own needs and
interest.)

What do you think?

CPU (e.g., 8086/286/386/486)
Memory (e.g., 640K, 1 MB, 2 MB, 4 MB, 8 MB)
Hard disk: Total capacity, and amount usually empty
CD ROM drive (yes/no)
Voice synthesizer (manufacturer and model)
Screen reader (manufacturer and version)
Screen enlarger (manufacturer and version)
Do you have/use Windows?
Do you have/use OS/2?
Do you use other access utilities? if yes, which?

Thanks much.
Gregg
