Thanks for the good response to my call for volunteers to take
minutes at our January 29 meeting. Mr. Chong was first to offer by
way of a private E-mail note. With his impeccable qualifications,
I could do no less than to accept his offer. As you all know, Abe
also volunteered through our NFBCAL address. I am therefore
appointing Chong as number one minute man and Abe as number one
backup. You two can talk about details while in Baltimore before
the meeting begins.
In talking with Mr. Chong about his preference of note taking
equipment, he said that he thought he would use a Braille'n Speak.
Here again, Abe fits in as a perfect relief hitter.
I should tell you that I have suggested to Mr. Chong a
demonstration of the wireless communication link technology as a
part of the minute-taking operation. Here is the idea:
We will attach a transmitter unit to the BNS machine that is used
to take the minutes and receiver units to several Braille Lite
machines. One of the Braille Lite units will be placed with Mr.
Maurer, who is not likely to stay in the meeting all day. He can
leave the Braille Lite on his desk or take it with him as he moves
about in the building. Any time his interest is awakened, he can
read the minutes from wherever he stop reading earlier, or he could
jump to the end of the file and pick up on our current discussion.
No decision has been made regarding assigning Braille Lite machines
to other individuals. We can talk about that at the meeting.
