Hello:

I have been reading with interest the January 1994 Braille Monitor.
I think it is time to consider taking strong action against government entities who
use Macintosh computers. Since schools use Macs a great deal and since
Macintosh computers are not very accessible to the blind; I suggest the following.

The Department of Health Education and Welfare be enjoined from giving grants
for the purchase of machintoshes computers, withhold financial aid to students
who attend schools where alternative access is not available. An exception would be
for a Macintosh used for a disabled person or for one to be used as a piece
of research equipment to create a user interface for the blind.

Enjoin the GSA from buying Machintosh computers.

Consider the possibility of trying to get the IRS to revoke the tax excempt status
of schools who have no alternative access for the blind.

I realize this is strong and heavy handed but, it should serve to
wake up Apple Computer Inc. I noticed that Microsoft was represented at the
second technology conference but not Apple.
