Hello:

I wish to agree with John Miller concerning the long carbon fiber cane.
Mine has given good years of service. The telescoping version has proved for me at least
to be more fragile. To date I have lost three of these canes. The rubber
piece above the tip of one wore so that it did not hold the cane closed.
I had the unfortunate experience of having my cane extend through the open door of a van
while I was closing the door. I went sighted guide the rest of the evening.
My spare telescoping cane had it's top section crushed in a car door.
I have also had sections delaminate. When this happens a strip of the outer surface
starts peeling off making for very sharp edges. It is certainly true that
my broken and crushed canes were partially my fault. I was suprised to find out
just how easily a carbon fiber shaft could break. It would be interesting to find out how
carbon fiber shafts are made.
