I would like to note that in my experience, the rubber deterierates over time
and that as one uses one's cane more and more, the tip becomes looser and
looser.
Also, I had a cane that lasted 5 years. After that period of time, a nitch
had worn into the shaft of the cane at the point where the rubber gromit
that
holds the tip in place pressed against it. This notch worked well at
holding
tips in place when they were new and prevented the rubber from
getting overly stretched wen it was installed.

Conclusion:
If we're going to try and upgrade the surface of the cane tip itself, then
we ought to address the question of the longevity of the rubber itself. I
have lost cane tips in travel due to this problem and it is most
troublesome.
