NFB-RD COMMITTEE MEETING (DETROIT)

From: Brian Buhrow (buhrow@lothlorien.nfbcal.org)
Date: Mon Jun 27 1994 - 22:52:41 PDT

As many of you know, the annual meeting of the NFB Research and Development
committee is coming up at this year's NFB national convention in Detroit
next week. As some of you will remember, our chair Tim Cranmer asked me to
co-chair the meeting, notably, the latter half when all of the various and
sundry speakers get up to give their pitches.

this is a note to invite those who would like some time on the floor
to come forward and reveal yourselves. You may respond directly to this
mail list, or, if you prefer discretion, you may e-mail me privately at:
buhrow@cats.ucsc.edu
Please use this e-mail address as it is the one I check most often.
There are some points you should bear in mind when submitting your request
for time and when preparing your remarks.

1. I will give each speaker at most 15 minutes on the floor. If you wish
to cover one topic in that 15 minutes or ten topics in that15 minutes, you
may do so. I will not extend your time beyond 15 minutes in any event and
so you should try to cover the most important topics first.

2. When you make your request for time, you should mention which
topic/topics you wish to cover during your time. At least one of the
topics should be relevant to the mission of the NFB r & d committee. If
not, then you may not turn up on the final list of speakers to speak on the
nfb r & d committee meeting.

3. I reserve the right, as chair of the meeting, to reduce the time
alloted to each speaker as time requires. I will do all I can to get as
many folks as possible behind the podium. In this vein, I may reduce each
person's time some arbitrary amount.

4. Please try to get your requests in ASAP. I will compile a list of
people who have made requests for time from me before I leave for
convention and will do all I can to consider them first when dividing up
the time. This does not mean that you cannot or should not make requests
of me when we are at convention, only that it will be easier for me to map
out the general course of the meeting if I have as many requests as
possible ahead of time.

Although I will not post updates to my list as they emerge, here is my
initial list, in no particular order:

1. John Miller (tactual graphics)
2. Harold Snider (WGBH newspaper)
3. Dr. Nemeth (scientific calculator)
4. Brian Buhrow (nfbcal on the net, if interested)

Please let me know if these entries are wrong and, of course, do contact
me to let me know if there are additions I should make to the list.
I look forward to the nfb-rd meeting with great interest and feel it will
be the best we've ever had.
-Brian
