Dear Mr. Esquith:
This is to respectfully suggest an addition to the research
priorities cited in the Federal Register of August 25, 1994, so as
to provide for career-specific efforts to develop tools and
technologies that promote employment of blind and visually impaired
individuals. It is our view that adapting existing equipment or
designing new hardware and software that leads to productive work,
should have higher priority than access technology for recreational
activities--such as descriptive television, even though this may be
highly regarded as a means of enhancing leisure activities. I am
not suggesting that any of the items now on the priority list be
dropped; only that one be added.
Thank you for considering this request.
Sincerely yours,
T. V. Cranmer, Director
Research and Development
