Hello, Dr. Cranmer,
I have to send this message to You because I am on vacation and do not
have the general address of the RD-Committee with me. If You find this
interesting, please forward it to the committee.
I am not aware of a commercially available mouse with a 1-cell Braille
display here in Germany. But I can try to find out.
There is, however, a man who has developped some kind of a touch screen
which gives tactile replica of what is on a certain part of the screen. He
showed it at a meeting of our committee on Information Technology, but
unfortunately I was not there to see it. From what I have been told it has
a small tactile display of about 4 by 4 centimeters in which dots are
comming up depending on what is on the part of the screen which should be
examined. I have some more specific information on it, but - as I said - I
am on vacation and don't have it available right now.
The next meeting of our commission is on the first weekend of November, so
maybe afterwards I can provide You with more information.
What this inventor has done so far is develop a prototype. Now he is
looking for more money to further develop his project. Some people are of
the oppinion that the device may be of interest to professional computer
programmers, but not to the "simple user".
I hope to have more specific information next time.
Best greetings,
Norbert.
