Hello:

As a starting point, I suggest that a flat speaker be used as the vibrator.
Radio Shack used to sell (Haven't checked recently) flat speakers. I
believe the name was Polyplaner. These speakers were available in several
sizes ranging from about 6X6 inches to 12X12 and were about 1 inch thick.
Ther were designed to be mounted on a wall. The vibrating element was a piece
of foam. If a hand is laid gently on one of these speakers, you can feel the
vibrations from it. Several years ago, my father and I installed one os these
in our kitchen so my mother could have music to cook by.
One cheap way to doing research on this would be to visit a music sotre or stereo
shop and very carefully feeling the speakers on display. A music store can use a
keyboard to demonstrate what different sounds feel like. Hope this gives lots
of good vibrations.
