Steve, again your comments are thoughtful and right on target. I too
hope this discussion continues and would like to see a good travel aid
developed even though many have been disappointing. I suspect the global
positioning system we've seen advertised for luxery cars will soon find
its way into a product for us.
I wonder whether the complaint we have long had about looking different
when using one of these devices is really valid. I have no problem with
the difference my cane makes in my appearance. I like reading enough
that I sometimes go for strolls with a tape player held near my left
ear. I like talking with friends enough that I carry a small ham unit
and gab as I go. I don't want to look weird (whatever that is), but I'm
willing to tollerate some "difference" if I get good information. I am
also willing to defend and promote that difference in appearance if it
means more and better information.
