Steve, again your comments are thoughtful and right on target.  I too 
hope this discussion continues and would like to see a good travel aid 
developed even though many have been disappointing.  I suspect the global 
positioning system we've seen advertised for luxery cars will soon find 
its way into a product for us.
I wonder whether the complaint we have long had about looking different 
when using one of these devices is really valid.  I have no problem with 
the difference my cane makes in my appearance.  I like reading enough 
that I sometimes go for strolls with a tape player held near my left 
ear.  I like talking with friends enough that I carry a small ham unit 
and gab as I go.  I don't want to look weird (whatever that is), but I'm 
willing to tollerate some "difference" if I get good information.  I am 
also willing to defend and promote that difference in appearance if it 
means more and better information.
