Dave Andrews and Dr. Cranmer make very good points regarding sign
locaters and real-time OCR. In fact, I was going to raise those points
myself, but am not sure if they fall within the range of the research we
are asked to address. Perhaps the researcher could clarify the scope of
the intended research.
Since you guys have pulled me out of the closet on this one, I'll restate
what I have said before that I believe getting information quickly is our
greatest problem, whether it be signs, memos or books. Although getting
from place to place is difficult for some, our travel tools and
techniques currently available do a pretty good job of permitting us to
move about independently. If I could choose between a fully functional
electronic travel guid and an equally fully functional reader, I'd choose
the reader every time.
