Sorry, Jim, we can't bring experimental cane tips to Washington. There
will be only four tips made for each of four test materials--total of
sixteen tips. The plan is to supply each volunteer participant with a
new cane of the type he uses, fitted with one of the new tips. When it
is badly worn, he will be given a new cane, fitted with one of the other
tips made from another test material. This means that each participant
gets to wear out four cane tips, assuming that it takes him no longer
than three months per material.
These are tenative plans, that will quite likely be altered during
discussions at the R&D meeting. I expect more flexibility will be urged
in the project, and this might very well allow for former members and
others to get in on the fun. In any case, we value your comments.
