Conversation with Compuserve

I hope that Compuserve will indeed address the needs of the
disabled, however, it is my impression as a compuserve user that
this is not the case. There are already areas of Compuserve such
as the Travel area and www sights that cannot be accessed except
by "Cim," which is their own software which is not speech
friendly. I am not speaking of the travel forums here, but the
travel area where plane reservations are made.

Also, I have pointed out to Compuserve that while Ascii access
may not be the prefered method for ardent "Windows," users, it
can be done as all versions of Windows up to 95 have required the
presence of Dos to operate. Therefore, almost all computer users
can access a service via the ascii interface. However, most
blind persons cannot do so at this time without investing a great
deal of money we don't have to do so. Therefore, to my way of
thinking, the ascii interface should not be fazed out until
Compuserve has a speach friendly version of "cim," so that we
have access to all areas of the service. After all, we are
paying for it just as sighted subscribers are, aren't we?
