Although I am gradually attempting to move into the Windows world, I find
it fascinating that there are those who are not blind working to browse
the Web with DOS-based software. Many of us may be aware of NetTamer, a
DOS-based package for PPP internet account with built-in E-mail
capability. Those of us who have long been users of LYNX on Unix may
also be interested in the work currently going on to upgrade DOSLYNX.
For that reason, I include the announcement below from the DOSLYNX-DEV
list. Please note that the last version number from the official DOSLYNX
site was 0.08 or 0.09. Here is the announcement:

Ok, it is out. Do we want the good news, or the bad news first? How
about the bad news:
Still no forms (do we see a pattern forming here?)
It seems a bit slower to me, mostly due to the first two things on the
good news list.
The good news (some of the new features):
SGML entity parsing in ALT text (like © in image alt text)
Better handling of sgml/html comments for current real-world use <!-- -->
Ability to leave off http:// in "Open Url" for web hosts
Real server errors are displayed if possable
The big, ugly heap corruption bug found and (hopefully) squashed!
And more...Check the changelog for all the major and minor changes.
We may be able to optimize the new SGML stuff in the future to gain some
speed, or maybe we will find some other source of speed.
I am very excited about the heap fix. Although DosLynx is rough I would
consider it BETA material if it kept from crashing. This one is the only
one _I_ have encountered in a long time, so I need reports if 0.14a
crashes on you!
EXE and SRC are available this time in the regular place:
http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/
I also made it to the big-time:
http://www.cc.ukans.edu/about_doslynx/doslynx.html
0.15 may take a while. I'd like to do some testing to determine if
it really is worth an upgrade to beta, and a couple features are already
being looked into (reload for one). I am busy busy this week and next
with work too, so I won't have as much play time :-(
Happy browsing,
Wayne.
P.S. I tried DosLynx for the first time with codepage 850 (ISO Latin)
turned on. Very COOL! Worked like a charm and didn't use much (if any)
extra memory. With 850 turned on and DosLynx in greyscale-mode I almost
thought I was using the real thing for a minute there ;-)
