Wayne Buttles has made Bobcat, a DOSified Lynx 2.4.2 available at
http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/bobcat.htm
I have tested it on a Pentium running DOS 6.2 through a token-ring
connection, with Vocal-Eyes 3.0. This has many rough edges, and you
can't expect to get much support from the author, because he's doing
this in his spare time. It can work with local files and has a
well-organized help system in HTML format, if you extract the ZIP file
into your root directory with PKUNZIP /d. I don't know how to make
this thing work with a PPP connection over a modem, but the docs say
you should be able to do this using a package called Close PPP, not
included with this distribution.
This program is not as complete as Lynx 2.6, but seems to support
frames to some extent, and you should be able to define your own
helper applications running from batch files, such as using PLANY to
play certain sound files. RealAudio is not likely, because it runs
under Windows.
If anyone needs a Vocal-Eyes SET file, I can supply one to get you
started. The screen displays in 25-line mode (not 24 line as you
would get through the typical modem connection). It does not write
through the BIOS. Since you are running your own Lynx.cfg file, I
think you could set -show_cursor as a command-line default if you
wanted to.
Anyway, we now have another choice in web browsing for anyone
interested in experimenting.
