                        CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meeting: Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)
         First Technical Working Group Meeting
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello

This message to invite you to participate in the first technical
working group meeting of the WAI project.

Date: Thursday May 22nd (day following the HTML/CSS working group
meetings held at the same location)
Location: W3C/INRIA Sophia Antipolis - France (near Nice)

This is a full day event organized as a joint meeting of three new
working groups created by the WAI project:
Working group for Technology development (extension of HTML, HTTP, CSS).
Working group on Guidelines and StyleGuide (for HTML and tools)
Working group on Advanced development (PICS, Phonetic markup, etc)

A full agenda and details on the venue will be sent to you no later
than April 28th 1997.

The Procedure is as follow:

1. Read the briefing package at
   http://www.w3.org/pub/WWW/Disabilities/access-brief
to learn about the WAI project (if you haven't done so yet).

2. Before May 5th, 1997, Register using the form at
   http://www.w3.org/pub/WWW/Disabilities/970522/Reg.html

3. Register to the mailing lists that best suit your level of
   participation for future WAI events.

Regarding point 3 on WAI project participation, we have created two
mailing lists:

w3c-wai-wg@w3.org: Technical Working Group mailing list
                   to discuss html/css/guidelines/pics/etc

w3c-wai-ig@w3.org: Interest Group: overall progress, announcement of
                   face-to-face meetings, etc

(we will also have w3c-wai-edu@w3.org later on, when the IPO is active,
to discusss Education/Awereness aspects)

You can now register to w3c-wai-wg-request@w3.org if you want to
actively participate in technical and guidelines discussions, and to
w3c-wai-ig-request@w3.org if you just want to follow the project
progress from a distance.

Next meetings will only be announced on the w3c-wai-wg@w3.org and
w3c-wai-ig@w3.org list, so if you don't register to one of these
lists, you won't be hearing from us again :-).

Our second technical working group meeting for the WAI project will
probably be held in the US, in the Boston area, on August 5th 1997.

You may contact Daniel Dardailler (danield@w3.org) if you have
questions about the WAI project or the above process.
