Apologies to those of you who receive this multiple times. We want to
start sending out updates letting people know about the new information
available on the Microsoft Accessibility and Disabilities Web site,
http://microsoft.com/enable/. In the future we also hope to include more
information on the state of our ongoing projects.
Recent headlines for Monday, August 18, 1997:
Bill Gates discusses accessibility in his newspaper column. Find out
what the President and CEO of Microsoft has to say about the importance
of making software usable by everyone. (August 13, 1997)
Search the Knowledge Base for technical articles of particular interest
to people with disabilities. (August 13, 1997)
President of Gallaudet University visits Microsoft to view products that
aid students who are deaf and hard of hearing. (August 13, 1997)
HiP Magazine Advisory Council Comes to Microsoft to take part in focus
group on SAMI closed captioning. (August 13, 1997)
SAMI specification available. Check out the technical details of the new
technology that will enable anyone who creates multimedia software
titles and Web pages to provide closed captioning for users who are deaf
or hard-of-hearing. (August 13, 1997)
Active Accessibility SDK now on CD-ROM. Microsoft's exciting new
technology to make better accessibility aids and more accessible
applications. Released in May, now available on the Web and on CD-ROM.

Microsoft awarded top honor by Self Help for Hard of Hearing People,
Inc. (SHHH) for progress in making multimedia software accessible to
people with hearing loss. (June 16, 1997)
New guidelines for accessible Web page design to take advantage of the
new accessibility features in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. (June 16,
1997)
Accessibility is now a Logo requirement. Microsoft releases version 3.0
of the Designed for Windows NT and Windows 95 Logo program, containing
four new accessibility requirements. (May 7, 1997)
Updated Accessibility Design Guidelines. A significant upgrade to
<I>the</I> guide to creating accessible software applications. (May 7,
1997)
Download Office 97 Manuals. Accessible text versions of the books, from
