Dear List,
For those interested in the latest developments in
vision substitution technology: new software has
become available, namely
The vOICe Learning Edition for Windows-95
or NT, version 1.0 beta (first test release).
The vOICe software translates images from a digital
camera (webcam) into sounds that you hear via your
headphones, thus targetting vision substitution.
The fully functional evaluation version offers
   - Vision substitution using truly visual input.
   - Hifi stereo sound from the auditory display.
   - Easy installation: simply download and run.
   - Built-in speech support for the main functions.
   - A mute button: you decide what you want and when.
   - Many advanced options, including slow-motion,
zoom, inverse video and edge detection.
Hardware requirements: a webcam, a fast notebook PC,
and headphones.
