The NationalFederation of the Blind Human Services Division is an
organization of professionals who are blind and working or aspiring to work
in the fields of social work, psychology, rehabilitation, and counseling.
We have established our own mailing list to trade tips about our professions

and, more importantly, to trade information and have a forum for discussion
about serving and advancing in our professions as blind persons. Since our
common ground is blindness and professional status in one of the human
service professions, we will focus most closely on issues involving
blindness.

-----------

The purpose of this list is to provide guide dog users and other
interested people with an easy way to access information about guide dogs
and to assist people in dealing with issues related to working with a
guide dog. Topics can include but are not limitted to the benefits and
disatvantages of using a guide dog, guide dog schools, training, care,
equipment, puppy raising, public access issues, legislation as it affects
guide dog users, and public attitudes about guide dogs and their use by the
blind as well as the activities of the National association of guide Dog
Users. If you art trying to contact your puppy raiser, or fellow classmates

from your guide dog school please feel free to post contact information here

but we would ask that such posts be kept to a minimum, and any and all
non-guide dog-related correspondence be kept private, or posted to a more
appropriate list. We would like to allow for open questions, although we wi
ll
not permit an endless debate between guide dog users and cane users over
the merits of either cane or dog as a mobility tool. We believe each has
its place. Likewise we will not condone the use of inappropriate language.

There will also be occasional posts concerning issues of major importance to

the blind as well as announcements concerning activities of the national
Association of Guide dog Users, and The National Federation of the Blind.
