JAWS for Windows takes a “Swing” at Java(tm) Accessibility during CSUN 1999

Henter-Joyce, Inc. will demonstrate the world's first Windows screen reader
to support the Java platform, during a Sun Microsystems, Inc. presentation
at CSUN 1999, March 19 at the LAX Marriott in Los Angeles.

Utilizing the Java Accessibility API that is built into the Java Foundation
Classes(tm) known collectively as "Swing", developers at Henter-Joyce have
adapted the JAWS for Windows Screen Reader Software to a number of
applications written for the Java platform running in Windows 95, 98, and
NT. Among the applications that will be demonstrated during CSUN 1999 is
the CAST Organization's “Bobby,” a web-accessibility rating program,
available at www.cast.org/bobby.

Future releases of the newly redesigned MAGic 6.1 Screen Magnification
Software, utilizing the tracking functionality of JAWS for Windows, will
also support the Java platform.

"Java accessibility will be increasingly important for people who are blind
and visually-impaired in the future," said Henter-Joyce President Ted
Henter, "and JAWS for Windows and MAGic will provide that access in the
Windows environment. The cooperative functionality that we have now is very
promising, and we look forward to making sure that promise is met as the
development of the Java platform continues to progress."

Future releases of JAWS for Windows, the world's leading screen reader,
will support the Java Accessibility and associated applications. For a
demonstration of JAWS for Windows accessing Java applications, please visit
Henter-Joyce during the conference in Marriott Suite 1726, or plan to
attend the Sun Microsystems presentation during the evening of Friday,
March 19 in
the LAX Marriott Atlanta and Boston Rooms.
