2 Part time openings
Starting date: May 1, 1999

We're looking for team players to teach blind adults
beginning to intermediate computer skills using adaptive
equipment and techniques. This position reports to the
Professional Services Director.

Duties include:

 --Design and develop training curriculums for various skill
levels.
 --Conduct classes in an open manner. Provide clear and
meaningful instruction tailored to the individual client and
their needs.
 --Provide all training materials in an accessible format for the
client.

Knowledge and skills:

 --Fluency in operating systems, especially: DOS, Windows 95/98,
with a particular emphasis on mastery of all alternative keyboard
commands.
 --Expertise of at least one major screen review program such as
Window-Eyes or Jaws; and familiarity with a second. Expertise in
one or more Windows 95/98 word processing packages.
 --Effectively use modern teaching practices and techniques; to
blind and visually impaired adults. Instruct in various teaching
environments: group, individual, etc.
 --Knowledge of effective communication skills; braille, typing,
recording devices and other techniques utilized by blind and
visually impaired individuals.

Typical Physical Activities:

Communicate orally with clients, staff, volunteers and the
general public in face-to-face, one-on-one setting and small
group settings; give instruction and information; respond to
questions orally; and by telephone. Ability to hear spoken
conversation within twenty feet.

Move around the office approximately fifty minutes per hour.

Work in an office environment, lift and move objects up to 20
pounds, such as computers, teaching aids, large binders, books,
and small office equipment.

Special Requirements:

  -- Excellent computer skills.
  -- Minimum two years working experience.
  -- Good people skills, and effective oral and written communication.
  -- High school diploma or G.E.D. (Teaching certificate from an
accredited institution a plus.)

This is a part-time Contract position:
Hourly rate is $17.00 - $18.50 per hour depending upon
experience.
