Project Name:
Accessible Kindle 2

The Problem:

The Kindle 2 is a device sold by Amazon.com. It allows users to download books and read them. The Kindle 2 has the ability to read documents aloud, but blind users cannot access the menu system.

Design Challenge:

1. Modify the code in the Kindle 2 so that all menus are spoken.
2. A "key describer" function should be available, so users can learn where buttons are and their function.
Design Parameters:

1. If not present, a "reset" button will be needed in order to return the Kindle 2 to a known state.
2. Overlays could be used to access menus. This is not the best option, but might be necessary if it is not possible to gently touch the screen without activating it.

Note: There is an online petition to ask Amazon.com to make the Kindle 2 accessible. See http://www.PetitionOnline.com/Kindle2/
