Kindle files

Hello Colleagues:

I presume that most of you have seen the note going around asking if any blind students will be attending a group of universities that are testing the Kindle this fall. After doing some research, it appears that the Kindle files (AZW extension) are a variant on a Pocket Mobile format. I wonder if a work around could be had by converting these files to a basic DAISY format. If so, perhaps we can have a two pronged approach to dealing with this problem. I did a quick search and the Kindle DX machine can read AZW, and in addition, PDF, RTF, TXT, Audible, PNG and JPEG files. This might not be perfect, but is it worth pursuing?

Regards,

Robert
