Hello,
My name is Akie Hashimoto and I just graduated from University of
Vermont majored in Electrical Engineering. For my senior project, we
were funded by National Federation of Blind to create a graphical
communication device for visually impaired individuals. The group
consists of two engineering professors in University of Vermont, two
mechanical students and me. This project focused on two fields: a
robotic arm to draw what is shown on a computer screen, on a plastic
medium, and digitizing a pen trace on any kind of a paper.

The product is still a development stage, but we are bringing this to
conventions held in Orlando and Seattle this July. This project has
been funded by NFB for three years, and we have a group of strong
individuals dedicated a lot of time to work on this product.
We are hoping to further improve this product and commercialize in
the future it so that this product can be a good educational tool as
well as letting more people enjoy the art of sensation.
I found your email address on NFB website, and we would like your
input on this product. Is it actually necessary? What is your concern
on using this product? How much would you pay for it? Is there
someone particular that I should contact?
I personally learned a lot about blind culture and engineering skills
from this project and I enjoyed a lot. I would love to keep working
on it if it is possible.
Thank you so much for your time!
Have a nice day, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Akie Hashimoto
