MEMORANDUM
To: Members And Friends
          NFB R&D Committee

From: T. V. Cranmer, Chairman

DATE: February 22, 1994

Subject: CD ROM Project

Mike Freeman has submitted the only suggestion to date for a CD ROM
title to be included in the project. Mike thought it would be good
to have the Oxford Dictionary of the English language on hand.
Good idea, mike, we await your contribution of the thousand dollars
needed to acquire this item. [frown]

No one has suggested selections of interest to them personally or
that they thought others would want included. The other comments on
the project, received here or via private E-mail, refer to work
done by others to facilitate CD ROM access. So, I wonder:

Would it be better to mount an effort to collect the results of
work done by others--with a view toward distributing a compiled
list? Should we leave it to the sellers of screen access programs?

The original thought behind the project is that there are a lot of
appliance operators out there who either cannot or prefer not to
customize there configuration files to access their CD ROMS. Could
I be wrong in this assumption? It would be a first for your
chairman.
