Hi.

Saw the following on the EASI list. IMHO we should respond. I'm using
the on-line docs Mr. Paciello refers to and I find them invaluable.
However, I'm only one person. If you are so moved, please write Mr.
Paciello in support of the product.

Subject: Request for Opinion

Dear EASI/AXSLIB Members:

By now, most of you are aware of Digital Equipment Corporation's release of the
Vision Impaired On-Line Documentation CD-ROM (VIOLD). This project required a
huge effort in order to accomodate the needs of blind and visually impaired
users.

Amongst other goals we hoped to achieve through VIOLD, we hoped that we could
establish a new industry trend: providing accessible documentation/information
for blind and visually impaired computer users. This, we believe was an
important requirement for the disabilities market segment.

Given the fact that comparitively little accessible computer documentation is
available to users and based on very positive user response to a survey I
posted last year trying to determine whether creating a CD-ROM was a viable
product offering, we are puzzled by the weak response for VIOLD.

So, my request to you is short and simple: What can we (Digital) do to ensure
that VIOLD is an attractive, affordable option to users who are blind and
visually impaired?

Your comments, opinions, and suggestions are greatly appreciated by me. Thanks
very much, in advance. Please don't worry about flooding me with E-Mail. I've
got plenty of diskspace.

Regards,

Michael G. Paciello
