I would say, with regard to the mode of input on the new calculator, that I
would like to be able to switch between postfix input and infix input.
If you use the convention that postfix input takes one operator per line,
then it would be much easier to construct files of operators that could be
read automatically.
Perhaps I missed the use of the "!" key. But, in c, as well as a few
other programming languages, the "!" is the logical not. It would be nice
if we could use that key for that purpose on the calculator. If this is
already proposed, then tell me to go and read. The "!" performs
2-compliment negation -- as opposed to 1-compliment negation which is
traditionally noted on computer keyboards I've used with the "~" key.
Finally, I would note that the "~" key is not in a fixed location on a
keyboard. While I don't think this is a problem for its use, it should be
noted so that dfurther documentation doesn't say that it was chosen based
on its position. Users could get potentially confused when they discover
that the "~" is beside their space bar, as it is on my Toshiba, or that it
is on the numeric key pad, as it is on one of my desk-top computers, or
that it is in place of the escape key, as it is on some keyboards I've
seen.
Keep up the excellent work. The reports are a pleasure to read and,
judging from their thoroughness, reflect a well thought design. I look
forward to great news on this front.
