Subject: Scientific Calculator
After reading Dr. Nemeth's most recent posting regarding the scientific
calculator, it is obvious that there are too many functions to group around
the numeric keypad in any meaningful manner. Yet, since I would assume
that our calculator will be "well-behaved" with respect to speech, one
may well wish to "turn off" the use of the numeric keypad by screen
access software when entering many digits. I did not mean, in any case,
to indicate that we either force the use of the numeric keypad, or even
to force NUM LOCK to be "on." Let me simply restate my previously not
well thought out comment to say simply that we not preclude the optional
use of the numeric keypad. In our efforts to maintain portability, this
should really be a natural occurrence.
It is really exciting to see this calculator take shape. I want to add
my words of admiration for Dr. Nemeth's thorough and thoughtful
approach.
Regards,
Steve Jacobson
