nf-Hello everyone:
nf-I whish to add my support to David Andrews. We not only face
nf-the tide of Windows but the software for DOS such as
nf-WordPerfect 5.1 is no longer sold. If I undersand correctly,
nf-DOS software is being withdrawn from the market. One
nf-consequence of this is that it will make it difficult for
nf-students, schools or others who have a chance to buy an older
nf-box to use it. Robert Jaquiss
I do think we need G.U.I. access but I don't think we need to
push the panick button just yet on Dos. Wordperfect is
continuing to market dos based products in fact they just came
out with 5.1 plus which is an inhancement to 5.1 so I think dos
will be here for a while, but we do need G.U.I. access there is
no question because for example the dos version of Wordperfect 6.0 is
dos based but has so much graphics in it it is difficult to use unless
the screen reader you have has special frames written for it.
Another problem I've noticed is that it is difficult for a blind
person to buy software over the counter as many stores, Comp
U.S.A. for one, will not accept returnned open software figuring
that anyone can tell them it didn't work while actually
installing it on their hard drives and issentially getting it
free. So if we buy a program and find it isn't speech friendly
we have a hard time negotiating with the store to get a refund.
This has already happened to me. Comp U.S.A. accepted it and
gave me a refund but I had to do some fancy negotiating.
