Greetings to all,
I have been reading this group's posts for some time, but have never
found it compelling to little more than read, up to this point.
however, I want to interject a point, from my prospective, as a
marketer, not as an engineer. I think what the R&D committee has
done, and is doing, and hopefully, will continue to do, is most
admirable, and I sincerely hope they will press on with furver.
However, many of the ideas shared in this forum deal with problems
that are defined by a "non-representative" segment of the total "blind
population." I suggest that funds be secured to conduct an in-depth
study of the needs of the more "normal blind" population, statistically
speaking, of course. The objective of such a study would be to
determine the central problems that need to be tackled by the more
typical blind person. Such a study may turn up absolutely nothing
new; however, it might turn up something that has been over looked.
Again, I am not being in anyway critical of the committee's work or
direction; the committee is pushing the fronteers that definitely
needs to be dealt with. I am simply suggesting that, from a marketing
viewpoint, rather than an engineering or, perhaps, somewhat less
representative prospective, there may be some important needs being
unintentionally ignored.
Respectfully submitted,
Dr. Ron Milliman, Professor of Marketing
