Greetings to Everyone:
As Dave Andrews has said, I have accepted a job as Director of
Technology for the National Federation of the Blind. My official
start date is Monday, August 18. And yes, I will be moving to
Baltimore. If you do not hear much from me on the e-mail front, it
is because I am busily engaged in activities to get ready for the
move. To say that things are hectic right now is an
understatement.
Needless to say, I am excited about the challenges and
opportunities of this new job. After having worked in "regular"
industry for approximately twenty years (I started out as a
programmer trainee with the State of Minnesota in the fall of
1977), I am making a complete "life change," from commercial
mainframe computing to the field of blindness-related technology.
Of course, many of you know that I have been involved with
technology issues for the blind in my "spare" time, among other
things, in my capacity as President of the National Federation of
the Blind in Computer Science. I expect that work to continue. I
also expect to be learning many many new things as I adjust to my
new situation.
Many of you have sent me congratulatory messages via private
e-mail, and for those words of support, I am extremely grateful.
I am flattered that so many of you expect positive things from me
as I assume my new duties. Here's hoping that your faith is
justified.
Regards,
Curtis Chong
