Hello Rick:

     The problem with trying to make our own set-top box or adapting one is
that the models change and the different models have different
characteristics. A DISH receiver and a Direct-TV receiver look the same, and
do the same functions, but I am told that the coding scheemes are
diffferent. What I had in mind was a box that would attach to the video
output, and on request do OCR on the image trying to pick up whatever text
it could. Such a device would be a first step in accessing textual on-screen
content.
