Hello Colleagues:

I thought that a low cost reader for NLS books would be useful. This would help more people access the books and also be a backup in case NLS gets its funding cut.

Regards,

Robert
--------
Project Name:
Low Cost reader for NLS audio books

The Problem:
The National Library Services (NLS) is in the process of converting the existing cassette based talking book system to a system based on flash memory and a specialized player. Due to the cost, it will be some years before every blind person has a new player.

Design Challenge:
Design a system using a dongle and software to read the NLS audio book files. A dongle must be used in order to protect the NLS material and absolutely keep it out of the hands of the general public.

Design Parameters:
The system must utilize a dongle preferably one that uses a USB connection. This dongle would only be sold to those qualified to receive NLS materials. The software should allow the user to select a book, and subsequently select chapters, pages etc. The system needs to replicate the capabilities of the future players.
