Hello Colleagues:

I offer the following in an attempt to respond to the concerns raised by Jan Bailey. This might not be a perfect solution, but we need to start somewhere.

Regards,

Robert

---------------
Project Name:
Customizable Screen Image Capture

The Problem:
Blind people face difficulties getting employed because they cannot work with images of documents displayed on screens.

Design Challenge:
Design a plugin that can capture all or a predefined portion of a screen, convert the image to a format usable by commercial OCR software, invoke the software and present the image as text preferably retaining layout and font information.

Design Parameters:
The software should be customizable. It should be able to capture all or or a predefined part of a screen. It should be noted that there are customizable keyboards available for the disabled. These can be configured with varying number and placement of keys. This may make it easier for the user to use the plugin as it enables single key presses instead of combinations of keys.
