                      MY IDEAL FAX MACHINE
                         Robert Jaquiss

Here is my idea of a braille FAX machine. I know I want the
moon and stars.

I want to be able to send and receive faxes. FAX data can be in
the form of paper or computer files. I don't want received FAXes
to automatically print. There are people who send junk FAXes; in
fact you can buy a FAX phonebook for the U. S. and Canada on CD-
ROM. I would like to read my FAXes with a speech synthesizer and
then decide to save, toss or emboss.

                           COMPONENTS

Arkenstone An Open Book or clone with 101 key keyboard

Intel Satisfaxtion 400 FAX/Modem (Internal)

Speech synthesizer for status and FAX reading

FAX software that can run in background will probably have to be
Windows based

MSDOS based command line FAX software for sending FAXes

Braille embosser that can emboss on 11 inch paper

Grade two braille translation software

Optional Pictac software or equivalent to emboss images
Optional CD-ROM drive with FAX directory CD-ROM

                           EXPLANATION

The Arkenstone An Open Book package includes HP ScanJet
scanner and DECtalk speech synthesizer. If sending from paper
isn't needed the scanner can be omitted.

The Intel Satisfaxtion 400 internal modem received the top
rating in the October issue of PC/Computing. It can transmit FAX
and data at 14.4 KBPS.

It should be possible to set up a Windows based FAX package to
run in the background to receive FAXes and put the images in a
specified directory. The Arkenstone software can be directed to
read from fax files found in a directory.

I have suggested the use of an MSDOS based FAX program to send
FAXes since it may be hard to work with a Windows based package.

The braille printer is necessary to have a FAX printed.

The grade two translation software and Pictac software would
be nice options. The Pictac package can I understand, produce an
embossed copy of a drawing.

The CD-ROM would be very helpful when a FAX number needs to be
looked up.

I hope that the Braille FAX can be configured to be an add on
to an existing computer system.
