Hello Colleagues:

The blindlaw list has had a discussion regarding access to satellite receivers and settop boxes. In light of this, I offer the following.

Regards,

Robert

-----------------
Project Name:
Access to Satellite and Settop Boxes
The Problem:

Blind people cannot access various functions of satellite and settop boxes. This is making it more difficult to view TV programs. Research is needed to better understand this type of equipment.

Design Challenge:

Analyze a variety of satellite receivers and settop boxes and determine if there is a way to intercept digital data which can be used to speak informational messages. It should be noted that there seem to be a number of hacks that alter the performance of receivers and settop boxes.

Design Parameters:

This is mainly a research effort to find what could be done to make receivers and settop boxes accessible.
