In line with Steve and others, I vote for ticks (5-8 kHz). However, like
Steve, I do not often rely upon information gained from the tapping of
the cane as I tend to tap pretty softly or even drag at times; more
important to me are reflections of ambient sounds. As Steve says,
surfaces vary enough that one would be somewhat hampered if one were to
rely primarily upon cane tip noises.
His idea of some sort of clicker is interesting and should be looked at.
Maybe I'll do some calculating this weekend if "honeydo" projects don't
interfere.
